Collins Key Stage 3 Science, Second Edition has been fully revised to match the 2014 curriculum and designed to help students secure the key skills, knowledge and interest in science to succeed at Key Stage 3 and beyond. Written by an expert author team, who know what works in the classroom, these engaging resources help bring science to life while supporting you and your pupils in measuring progress and preparing for GCSE.

Supporting Assessment at KS3:

The Collins KS3 Science scheme has assessment embedded throughout, which means that there are plenty of opportunities for gathering evidence of the progress being made by pupils and planning your teaching accordingly.

What you should already know section at the start of each chapter summarises ideas that students will have met previously, providing an opportunity for discussion around prior learning so that you can plan lessons accordingly.

Applying key ideas sections provide an opportunity for students and teachers to assess how well key ideas from the earlier part of the topic have been mastered. Differentiated tasks provide challenge for more able students and give you feedback on progress made so far.

Checking your progress sections at the end of each chapter support students in assessing their own progress and targeting areas they need to focus on. Colour coding demonstrates how key ideas develop and become more challenging as the chapter progresses.

End of chapter questions, with a balance of question type and focus, assess pupils’ command of ideas and ability to apply them.

Gather evidence on how pupils are progressing using the Collins Key Stage 3 Science tracking system Trajectory of Progress, found in the Teacher Guide. Scores can also be converted to levels for those still using the old system.
