Specialised workshops, covering subjects such as art, maths and history, can be booked in advance of your visit These interactive sessions bring Alnwick Castle and its incredible past to life for students in a host of new and exciting ways. Three of our new KS3 workshops are detailed below. FANTASY FORTRESS With our medieval experts, pupils will learn about the features that made Alnwick Castle in the Middle Ages, before being given the chance to construct a castle of their own. Using documentary evidence from the time, groups are provided with a budget and tasked with building the best possible ‘fantasy fortress.’ HENRY ‘HARRY HOTSPUR’ PERCY Henry ‘Harry Hotspur’ Percy (1364 – 1403) became well- known as one of England’s most famous knights. Learn about his life, loves and losses, the battles, rebellions and political intrigues he became embroiled in and why his story is so important to Alnwick Castle, Northumberland and Britain’s wider history. ART INVESTIGATORS Explore the castle’s State Rooms and discover its incredible art collection, including portraits, Renaissance paintings, Chinese ceramics and remarkable items usually only found in royal palaces. Pupils can use their art knowledge to complete a series of tasks, whilst gaining inspiration for their own creative work.
