What is Dockside?

Dockside Reading Intervention is a systematic phonics-based reading intervention programme used in over 1,500 schools. It has been developed specifically for older students who have not yet learnt to read, as well as for catch-up readers and EAL students.

How does it work?

Dockside has 7 structured stages, from Starter level to Stage 6, providing a systematic framework for students to work through in small but speedy steps. The programme contains 75 fully decodable reading books spanning reading ages of 4-8, with an additional 27 Dockside Extra readers for further practise and consolidation. The design and storylines have been developed specifically for the older student, with contemporary storylines and edgy illustrations.

Dockside is extremely flexible and can be tailored tomeet the

needs of any student. Clear step-by-step support is provided for teachers and TAs on delivering a successful Dockside session with lesson plans for each reader. The Teacher’s Guide also includes a CD-ROMwith editable versions of all the activities, as well as simple storyboards, images of the characters, word walls, starter cards, test cards and record-keeping and assessment charts.

What’s new?

Dockside eBooks and apps! Research has shown that boys in particular have a strong interest in digital reading which is where Dockside eBooks and apps come in.

EachDockside reader from Stage 1-6 is now available as an eBook that can be used across all devices including iPads, Kindles, android tablets and PCs. And the exciting new Dockside Stage 4 apps are a great addition to the Dockside range of resources with features such as, a choice of ‘Read toMe’ or ‘Read by Myself’, tap for pronunciation and simple animation.
