The National Memorial Arboretum is the UK’s year-round centre of Remembrance and home of the Armed Forces Memorial which was dedicated in the presence of her Majesty the Queen in 2007. The 150-acre site in Staffordshire features a diverse range of flora and fauna and over 300 unique memorials, each featuring inspiring symbolism and individual stories. Representing

conflicts from pre-WWI to the present day, the memorials are the perfect inspiration for the study of history, citizenship, art and literacy and for developing students’ understanding of Remembrance.

Schools and other learning groups visiting the Arboretum can opt to participate in one of the curriculum-linked workshops such as the Poppy Activity or enjoy one of the guided tours or land train,

complete with site-based commentary. Self-led visits are also available and

a range of resources are available to download from the website

www.thenma.org.uk . New from September 2014 are WorldWar I Explorer Days which combine a range of onsite activities to help students reflect on the importance of the Great War and the development of contemporary Remembrance. The National Memorial Arboretum is the only UK site to observe a Daily Act of Remembrance including a two-minute silence.
