Into Film and ChildNet Use Film to Teach Internet Safety

Staying Safe Online is a new resource from the education charity Into Film and ChildNet, using film and related activities to provide information and guidance about internet safety. The resource features PowerPoint presentations and .pdf files tailored to different age groups. In the KS3&4 version, aimed at 11-16 year –olds, The Social Network (12) – about the founding of Facebook and how it has changed all our lives – and the hard-hitting documentary Catfish (12) - about how easy it is to be tricked about people’s identity online - are used to explore the key themes of privacy and sharing of information, and being safe digital citizens

Activities, designed to follow a screening of one or both films and supported by activity cards and ‘Top Tips’ worksheet, include inviting students to consider what sort of information they would share with different types of friends, exploring positive and negative impacts of social media, and creating either a short film or presentation to promote their top 10 e-safety tips.
