Free Othello tickets for schools

The ninth year of Shakespeare’s Globe’s flagship Education project Playing Shakespeare with Deutsche Bank approaches. The Globe Education production, specifically designed for secondary school and A-Level students, will run from 26 February to 12 March at Shakespeare’s Globe in London with free tickets offered to all state secondary schools in London and Birmingham. This year’s production is Othello. Booking opens on 29 September at www.shakespearesglobe.com/playingshakespeare.

Schools from outside of these cities, sixth-form colleges and independent schools can book highly discounted tickets (£5 and £10) for performances between 13 – 20 March. Booking is available online now.

Globe Education’s bold productions have been praised for their edgy interpretation, appealing to teenagers whilst retaining Shakespeare’s own language and without being dumbed-down. This year’s play, Othello, raises many themes to which young people will relate such as friendship, misogyny, jealousy, racism and honour. For many students the project will be their first experience of live theatre. For some, it will be their first visit to London.

Schools are offered free supporting resources; student workshops, Continuing Professional Development (CPD) training for teachers and a dedicated website with extensive online resources to support the teaching of Shakespeare in the classroom: http://www.playingshakespeare.org
